Vol. 380 No. 5

Written Answers. - Flax Growing.

40.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if there are any proposals to promote flax growing as an alternative farm enterprise.

A production aid for flax, at present in the region of £100 per acre, is paid by the EC. Information and advice on flax growing are available to farmers from An Force Talúntais and ACOT. Trial acreages organised in County Cork by commercial interests in 1985 and 1986 have provided additional information on the cropping, harvesting and marketing of flax. A further trial area is being grown in East Cork by another commercial interest this year.
