Vol. 380 No. 5

Written Answers. - Leixlip (Kildare) School.

74.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need for the provision of extra facilities at Scoil Uí Dhálaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare; the exact nature of these requirements as represented to her by the school authorities; the estimated cost of same; the likely time scheduled for the provision of same; if this schedule is likely to meet with the needs of the school authorities; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I accept that conditions at Scoil Uí Dhálaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare are not satisfactory though the situation has been considerably improved by the recent provision of four prefabricated classrooms and the installation of new toilet facilities.

The question of the provision of a permanent extension to the school was discussed recently with the school authorities. This extension will comprise eight standard classrooms and the proposals are acceptable to the school authorities whose architects are preparing a sketch plan and a cost plan. When these documents have been completed the matter will be further discussed with the school authorities.

Because there are a number of factors which would affect progress on the project it is not possible to say when building works might commence and this is understood by the school authorities.

The cost of the project has not yet been established but in any event it is not the practice to divulge individual costings to outside parties because of the need to preserve a bond of confidentiality on the matter with school authorities.
