Vol. 380 No. 7

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Funding.

111.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide money for urban renewal for towns in County Donegal in addition to Letterkenny which has already been designated; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the Deputy refers to areas designated under the Urban Renewal Act, 1986 and the Finance Act, 1986 for urban renewal purposes. Financial incentives in the form of tax allowances and remission of rates are available to promote the construction and refurbishment of properties in the designated areas. Direct financial assistance by way of grants or otherwise is not provided. An area of approximately 14 acres has been designated in Letterkenny. I have no proposals for the designation of areas in other urban centres in County Donegal.
