Vol. 380 No. 8

Written Answers. - Drogheda New Garda Divisional Headquarters.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the lengthy and continuing delay in giving sanction to the building of a new Garda Divisional Headquarters at Drogheda, County Louth, to replace the existing unsuitable building; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the necessary finance was available for a replacement building by the Office of Public Works in 1985-86; as agreement with Drogheda Corporation has long been reached regarding the site, when sanction will be given; the proposed cost of the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The legal formalities involved in the purchase of the site for a new Garda Divisional Headquarters at Drogheda, which are complex and time-consuming, are being processed. No moneys could be allocated to the new building project until these formalities are completed. Detailed planning of the new station has not been finalised and it is not possible therefore to give an accurate estimate of cost or to say when work will commence.
