Vol. 380 No. 8

Written Answers. - Hepatitis B Vaccination.

83.

asked the Minister for Health the reason medical and paramedical staff are not being vaccinated against hepatitis B at the health centre in Ballymun, Dublin 11 where there is a staff of 67, many of whom have close contact with possible carriers of this virus.

The decision to offer hepatitis B vaccination to the staff of a particular health institution is a matter for the local health board.

I am informed by the Eastern Health Board that they are currently assessing which of their staff should be offered vaccination; this includes staff working in health centres. Vaccination has already been offered to health board dentists. Pending the outcome of this assessment any staff member who is particularly concerned about the occupational risk of contracting hepatitis B should contact their local director of community care/medical officer of health or the Dublin Medical Officer of Health.
