Vol. 380 No. 9

Written Answers. - Whitaker Committee on Penal Reform.

13.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will list the recommendations made by the Whitaker Committee on Penal Reform which have been implemented to date; if any timetable has been agreed by the Government for implementation of the remaining recommendations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer the Deputy to my response to the Adjournment debate on 18 November last in which I set out the general position in relation to the Report of the Committee of Inquiry into the Penal System.

The findings of the committee continue to be taken into account as appropriate in dealing with various prison and related issues.

Because of the nature of the report it would not be practicable to outline a timetable of the kind sought by the Deputy.
