asked the Minister for Justice if he will give an up-to-date report on the search for caches of arms arising from the reports of large quantities of arms being landed in Ireland.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the following is a provisional list of the ammunition, weapons explosives and other materials recovered in the State as a result of ongoing searches since the seizure of the Eksund by the French authorities.

(1) Ammunition: 141,730 rounds of assorted ammunition; 4,971 cartridges; 197 assorted magazines.

(2) Weapons: 191 rifles; 45 shotguns; 27 pistols; 26 revolvers; 4 sub-machine guns; 4 general purpose machine guns; 1 Gustav Bazooka; 1 rocket launcher; 13 launching tubes for mortars.

(3) Explosives: 601 lbs. Semtex "H";

74 grenades; 23 pipe bombs; 12 RPG rockets (and 12 motors); 115 detonators.

(4) Other materials: 138 bayonets; 3 mercury tilt switches; 4 micro switches; 17 telescopic sights; 1 mortar timing device; 4 time power units; 5 machine gun mounts; 2 tripod mountings for machine guns; 10 battery chargers; 3,007 metres of fuse wire.

Garda search operations aimed at locating and seizing other arms and munitions illegally held here are continuing.
