Vol. 380 No. 9

Written Answers. - VAT on Food.

46.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in relation to VAT zero-rated foodstuffs he will give the estimated yield from a 1 per cent rate; and the breakdown of the estimate into bread, meat, fish, potatoes and milk.

It is estimated that a 1 per cent rate of VAT on food currently zero-rated would yield approximately £20 million in a full year. It is also estimated that the particular items of food mentioned in the question would account for about 60 per cent of that yield. Reliable estimates for the yield from each item are not available.
