Vol. 380 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit.

56.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason sick benefit was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who was off work due to illness from 11 to 15 April 1988.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 11 April 1988 to 16 April 1988, the day before he was certified fit to resume work. Payment was not authorised as according to the available records he had not the minimum of 39 appropriate contributions paid or credited in 1986-87, the contribution year governing his claim.

The person concerned submitted an employer's statement of earnings for 1986-87 which showed 43 appropriate paid contributions. The records of my Department indicate, however, that he had only 12 such contributions together with other contributions which do not reckon towards disability benefit. A copy of the employer's statement has been forwarded to the social welfare officer in Newbridge and he has been asked to establish the correct record.

This person will have his claim for disability benefit re-examined on receipt of the social welfare officer's report.
