Written Answers. - Kildare Youth Services Funding.

75.

asked the Minister for Education if she will favourably consider an application from Kildare Youth Services for funding from the national lottery to provide for the appointment of a full time organiser/co-ordinator for North Kildare, having regard to the population increase in the area; if she recognises the need; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

76.

asked the Minister for Education if she will award a grant from the national lottery to Kildare Youth Services for the development of a youth resource centre in Naas, County Kildare; if she recognises the need to offer financial assistance to this worthy cause; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 75 and 76 together.

The application by Kildare youth services for funding to provide for the appointment of a full time organiser/co-ordinator for North Kildare will be examined by my Department when funds from the surplus proceeds of the national lottery set aside for the development of youth organisations and services are being allocated. Each application submitted will be considered on its merits having due regard to the need to provide youth services in areas which were not previously catered for and to develop new programmes responsing to emerging needs. My Department also has under consideration an application from Kildare youth services for the development of a youth resource centre in Naas, County Kildare.

A decision in the matter will be conveyed to the authorities concerned as soon as possible.
