Vol. 380 No. 10

Written Answers. - Rheumatology Service.

132.

asked the Minister for Health his proposals to ensure that patients who were attending a consultant rheumatologist (details supplied) in Dr. Steeven's Hospital, Dublin 8 will be able to continue their treatment having regard to the fact that this clinic has not been relocated and the consultant's other clinics in St. James's Hospital, Dublin 8 are full and cannot accept transfers from Dr. Steeven's Hospital clinic.

Responsibility and funding for rheumatology services previously provided by a consultant rheumatologist attached to Dr. Steeven's Hospital was transferred to the MANCH group (Meath, Adelaide and National Childrens) and, in particular, to the Adelaide Hospital, in order that its relationship with orthopaedic services could be maintained. Commencement of the service has been delayed due to difficulties which arose in relation to in-patient accommodation and back up facilities to be provided by the hospital for the consultant concerned. I am seriously concerned at the problems being experienced by former Dr. Steeven's arthritis out-patients and I have asked that action be taken by the hospital to establish the required out-patients service immediately.
