Vol. 380 No. 10

Written Answers. - National Lottery Allocations.

37.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the amounts allocated by his Department from national lottery funds in each county to date.

38.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of all national lottery moneys which have been received by his Department; if he will give details of the allocation of these funds by his Department; and the commitments entered into in regard to future disbursement.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.

The provision of £400,000 in the Estimate for the Department for 1988 for the promotion of cultural relations with other countries has been funded from the national lottery. Grants are made under this heading by the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the advice of the Cultural Relations Committee and go towards the promotion of Irish cultural and artistic events, lecture tours etc. abroad.

Applications for such grants may be received from groups and individuals anywhere in Ireland and in many cases are not readily identifiable with a particular geographic location. Furthermore, most of the funds granted are of their nature expended either abroad or on travel abroad. Identification of expenditure by county is not therefore feasible.

A complete schedule detailing the individual grants paid to date and grants approved and not yet paid is set out as follows. No additional commitments have been entered into in regard to future disbursement.
