Vol. 380 No. 10

Written Answers. - Glasnevin (Dublin) Scheme.

116.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason only £30,000 of the original estimate of £98,000 for landscaping, recreational and ancillary works at Clareville-Claremont, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, was paid to Dublin Corporation by his Department leaving the area half completed with serious flooding problems; the additional funds which will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The sum of £30,000, representing approximately £300 per dwelling house, which was provided by my Department towards the cost of landscaping at this estate, is a more than equitable contribution from housing construction capital towards the cost of these works. In addition to that the Clareville Estate Residents Association has been allocated a grant of £5,000 under the amenities grant scheme for the five-a-side soccer all weather area in this location.

Dublin Corporation wrote to my Department on 19 April 1988 seeking an amenity grant for this project. It was not among the projects for which I announced grant allocations on 21 April 1988. In the event of additional funds becoming available, I will consider the application in conjunction with all others received.
