asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the current annual grant paid by his Department to Muintir na Tíre; and in view of the financial difficulties being experienced by this voluntary body, if he will endeavour to augment their income through an increased contribution from his Department's Estimate or from national lottery funds.

The Exchequer grant being paid to Muintir na Tíre this year amounts to £15,000. I regret that in view of the extremely tight budgetary constraints it is not possible to increase this grant. I am, however, pursuing the Deputy's suggestion that national lottery funds be made available to Muintir na Tíre.
