Vol. 381 No. 4

Written Answers. - St. Mary's Mansions, Dublin.

114.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is concerned at the very serious deterioration in the living conditions in the St. Mary's Mansions flats complex, Seán McDermott Street, Dublin 1; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The management and maintenance of their rented dwellings, including the maintenance of proper living conditions in flat complexes such as St. Mary's Mansions, is the responsibility of Dublin Corporation. My Department have been pressing the corporation to develop initiatives, in co-operation with the residents, to improve conditions in certain housing estates. In regard to structural improvements, the corporation have sought financial assistance from the Department and an allocation of £2.3 million has been made to them this year under the remedial works scheme in respect of priority refurbishment projects, including this estate. Technical documentation for the works proposed to the estate and submitted by the corporation is being examined in the Department and a decision will be made in the near future.
