Vol. 381 No. 5

Written Answers. - Postal Delivery Inquiry.

10.

asked the Minister for Communications when the results of the inquiry into the speed of postal delivery which he has sought will be available; and if he will lay the results before the Houses of the Oireachtas.

While the general quality of the mail service has been satisfactory since the establishment of An Post there has been a downturn in the standard of service recently because of problems in implementing productivity arrangements. I have already indicated to the House that I have made arrangements to have the results of independent surveys of mail deliveries carried out by An Post made available to my Department and that I will monitor the situation very carefully.

An Post are fully conscious of the need to provide a high quality of service in all areas of its operations. The company will continue to monitor the standard of their mail delivery service by means of internal checking procedures and independent surveys. The company will furnish me with the results of all future independent mail delivery surveys and in addition will publish the results of the surveys. An Post have informed me that the next survey should be completed by the end of June and that the results will be published as soon as possible thereafter.
