Vol. 381 No. 5

Written Answers. - ESB Powerlines Studies.

35.

asked the Minister for Energy if, in relation to the high-voltage powerlines being built by the ESB through County Wicklow, he will indicate the scientists who have undertaken the studies of the matter; if he will publish any and all relevant studies before the ESB has completed the building of the powerline; and if he will meet a deputation from SPARKS and other local interests to discuss the matter.

The chief technical adviser of my Department is at present undertaking a review of relevant published reports dealing with the question of the alleged effects on human health from overhead powerlines. As I have said in reply to previous questions, this assessment will take some time to complete but, when it is completed, I will consider meeting interested groups and making the findings known to them.
