Vol. 381 No. 5

Written Answers. - Broadleaf-Hardwood Timber Planting.

40.

asked the Minister for Energy if he has satisfied himself that the stated intention of his Department, that there will be an overall 10 per cent of broadleaf-hardwood timber in future plantings, can be obtained; whether this will be sufficient; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It has not been stated that the Department's policy is to devote 10 per cent of overall planting to broadleaves. I have announced a policy of allocating 3 per cent of total planting to broadleaves with the possibility of minor increases over the next few years.
