Vol. 381 No. 6

Written Answers. - Crime Prevention.

40.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will ensure that the continuous and outrageous behaviour of thugs and vandals in an area of Dublin 12 (details supplied) is given special attention by the Garda in order that the problem may be eradicated.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the gardaí are giving the matter referred to in the question as much attention as possible having regard to the many other demands on their services. Special measures are being taken to deal with crime and vandalism in the area concerned, including the use of foot and mobile patrols, and a number of arrests have been made. The Garda authorities have assured me that they will continue to take whatever steps they can to control the problem.

I am also informed that there are now two neighbourhood watch schemes in operation in the area. It is hoped that this community involvement in crime prevention will also help to curb the problem.
