Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Amenity Grant Application.

167.

asked the Minister for the Environment in respect of each organisation to be grant-aided as recently announced by him from moneys provided by the national lottery: (a) the total number of adult members (b) the total number of youth members (c) the length of time the organisation has been in existence (d) whether the organisation has previously received funds from national lottery sources and (e) the amount of local contribution to be made in respect of the project.

Organisations applying for amenity grants are not required to supply information of the kind referred to at (a), (b) and (c) and, accordingly, the information is not available in my Department. None of the organisations to which grants were allocated received assistance from national lottery funds previously. The conditions of the scheme require a local contribution of at least 30 per cent towards the cost of projects.

168.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether any of the grants sanctioned for payment from moneys provided by the national lottery are (a) in respect of specific projects or (b) arising from an application from the organisation to be grant-aided; if so, the details in each case; and the reasons for choosing such organisations.

All amenity grants are in respect of specific projects arising from applications made by local authorities, local organisations, individual members of the public, etc., either directly or through public representatives.

As to the details in each case and the criteria used in selecting projects for grant assistance, I would refer the Deputy to my replies to Questions No. 109 of 10 May, 1988 and No. 24 of 4 May, 1988 respectively.
