Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Listed Buildings.

178.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether he proposes to take any action with regard to the present failure by local authorities and others to adequately protect listed buildings; if his attention has been drawn to the serious deficiencies in this respect at present; and if he will outline the action he proposes to take in this respect.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 30 of 3 February, 1988 in which I outlined the statutory powers available to the local authorities for protection of listed buildings. As I then indicated I am preparing legislative proposals which will considerably strengthen the existing derelict sites legislation.
