asked the Minister for Labour the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies abolished by him during his term of office to date; and the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies set up by him or proposed to be set up by him since taking office.

—to provide training of persons for industry

—to promote, facilitate, encourage, assist, co ordinate and develop the provision of such training

Youth Employment Agency

—to develop, extend, operate, co-ordinate and integrate schemes for the training and employment of young persons

National Manpower Service (formerly a section of the Department of Labour)

—to act as the national placement and jobfind ing service

—to operate employment programmes

—to assess the impact of current provision —to recommend an action plan for the next few years

Inter-Departmental Committee on action to assist early school leavers (Report completed, early announcement expected)

—to devise a programme catering for the needs of unqualified early school leavers

Proposed Commissions etc.

National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health

—in the context of proposed legislation on safety and health at work, to undertake responsibility at national level for all matters relating to safety and health at places of work

Labour Relations Commission

—in the context of proposals for legislation on industrial relations reform, to promote good industrial relations

—to provide a conciliation service and an industrial relations advisory service

—to formulate codes of good industrial relations practice.
