Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Treatment.

210.

asked the Minister for Health the reason for the undue delay in the provision of orthodontic treatment for a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if he has satisfied himself that this delay will not cause long term damage to the child's teeth.

The person referred to has been assessed and found to require orthodontic treatment. Her name has been placed on the priority waiting list. The orthodontist who attends her area is unable to accept new patients at present. I understand from my dental advisers that the ideal age at which to provide orthodontic treatment is 12 years while the person referred to has not yet reached that age. Every effort is being made by her health board to provide an adequate orthodontic service and the health board is currently engaged in a review of its orthodontic services.
