Vol. 381 No. 8

Written Answers. - Wexford Housing Reconstruction Work.

42.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether funding will be provided to begin work on upgrading and improving substandard houses in Wexford town; if a decision has been made on the submission from Wexford Corporation to carry out extensive reconstruction works in three estates in Wexford; and if he will outline the policy of his Department in relation to substandard houses owned and let by local authorities.

The management and maintenance of their houses is the responsibility of local authorities. Assistance for carrying out major structural works to certain estates is available from my Department under the remedial works scheme. I have approved three proposals under the scheme from the corporation in respect of their estates at Talbot Green, Maudlintown and Wolfe Tone Villas and have allocated £250,000 to them this year.
