asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies abolished by him during his term of office to date; and the names and functions of the commissions, committees and State-sponsored bodies set up by him or proposed to be set up by him since taking office.

The answer to the first part of the question is none. The details sought in respect of bodies established, or proposed, are as follows:

To ensure the fullest possible development of all aspects of the horticulture industry.

Management Board for Disease Eradication

To be involved in all major aspects of disease eradication, that is, in setting objectives and priorities as well as timetables for achieving them; reviewing the operation of the schemes on an ongoing basis; drawing up the annual disease eradication programme; and making recom mendations to the Minister on any necessary changes in legislation.

Proposed

Teagasc (The Agriculture and Food Development Authority)

The new body will incorporate the functions of An Foras Talúntais and An Comhairle Oiliúna Talmhaíochta.

Local Review Committees on Disease Eradication

These committees will review the progress of the disease eradication programmes. They will comprise representatives of farmers and vet erinary practitioners, together with veterinary officers of the Department of Agriculture and Food.
