Vol. 382 No. 9

Written Answers. - One-Teacher Primary Schools.

186.

asked the Minister for Education if it is the Government's intention to have one-teacher primary schools as part of the Irish educational system; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

187.

asked the Minister for Education the Government's view on the capacity of one-teacher primary schools to implement the school curriculum in a proper manner; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 186 and 187 together. The Government are aware of the special difficulties of one teacher primary schools in implementing the school curriculum in a proper manner. Policy is that such schools should not be retained expect in circumstances where no suitable alternative arrangements can be made for the education of the children concerned.
