Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

168.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a person (details supplied) in County Waterford has been approved for an invalidity pension.

Invalidity pension is payable to insured persons who satisfy the contribution conditions and who are permanently incapable of work.

The person concerned has been in receipt of disability benefit since 21 February 1984. He was examined on 22 June 1988 by a medical referee who did not consider him to be permanently incapable of work and asked to have him referred for a further examination in six months. A deciding officer decided that he was not therefore entitled to invalidity pension. The person concerned has been notified of this decision and of his right to appeal.

169.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when payment in full of an invalidity pension will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Louth in view of the fact that his overpayment has been repaid in full.

Invalidity pension overpayment of £153 was fully recovered on 28 September 1988. The person concerned on request returned his pension book for adjustment on 17 October 1988. A pension book, payable from 20 October 1988 at the maximum rate payable to a married man, was issued to the designated post office of payment on 17 October 1988. A payable order representing the difference between the full and the reduced rate of pension for the period 28 September to 19 October will be issued shortly.

170.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in the issuing of fuel vouchers to a person (details supplied) in County Louth who is in receipt of an invalidity pension.

The national fuel scheme applies to persons in receipt of long term social welfare or health board payments who are living alone or only with persons who come within certain categories.

The person concerned is in receipt of invalidity pension. He resides with his wife who is employed and earning in excess of £50 per week. His wife is not, therefore his dependant for the purpose of the national fuel scheme and his application for an allowance under the scheme had, therefore, to be refused.
