Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fair Trade Commission.

175.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present position regarding the investigation being carried out by the Fair Trade Commission of the possibility of incorporating Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome in domestic Irish legislation; when the study commenced; and when it is likely to be completed.

The investigation by the Fair Trade Commission of the possibility of incorporating Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome in domestic Irish legislation is currently in hand. The Commission in March 1988 invited submissions from interested parties, representative bodies or undertakings in relation to the proposed study. Due to the increased work load faced by the Commission in carrying out its new functions under the Mergers, Take-overs and Monopolies (Control) Act, 1978, as amended, it is not possible to state when the study is likely to be completed.
