Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Admission to Royal College of Surgeons.

292.

asked the Minister for Education if she will investigate the allegations (details supplied) regarding the admission of students to the Royal College of Surgeons; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland is a private institution operating under charter. It receives no State funds for under-graduate medical training. The selection of candidates for entry to medical training in the Royal College of Surgeons is a matter for the authorities of the college. As the college is a private institution it would not be open to me as Minister for Education to intervene in a matter of this nature nor would it be appropriate for me to comment on it.
