Written Answers. - Birr New National School.

347.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to the provision of a new national school for girls at the Convent of Mercy, Birr, County Offaly; if she will outline the present stage of planning for this school; if her attention has been drawn to the very bad condition of some of the existing buildings; and if she will confirm that she will treat the provision of a new school at Birr as a matter of priority.

The question of new national school accommodation for girls at the Convent of Mercy, Birr, County Offaly, is currently being examined by my Department. A decision will be conveyed to the school authorities as soon as possible. Meanwhile, my Department's professional staff have reported on the condition of the existing accommodation and grant sanction will be given to the school authorities for any essential interim improvements.
