Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

351.

asked the Minister for Education the reason her Department is unable to provide transport or assistance to enable two deaf children (details supplied) in County Kerry to attend a special school in Limerick.

In the case of the older of the two children, who has been attending the special school for a number of years, transport has been provided from Glin to Limerick, the arrangement originally sought for him when he enrolled in the school. In addition, because of particular family circumstances, a grant has been provided to assist with the cost of making private arrangements for transport to Glin to connect with the school bus service.

The case of the younger child and the question of her enrolment in the special school in Limerick has only recently been brought to my Department's attention and is being considered at present.

As both children, who, it is understood, live some distance apart, are well outside the normal range of daily transport to Limerick I regret that I would be precluded due to the extremely high cost involved, from providing a full transport service for them.
