Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Lottery Fund Allocations.

363.

asked the Minister for Education if she will consider a request for funding, from the proceeds of the national lottery from Leixlip United Soccer Club, County Kildare; if her attention has been drawn to the club's current expansion proposals; if her attention has further been drawn to the club's urgent need for financial assistance; if she will be in a position to offer grant aid in the current year and/or in 1989; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

364.

asked the Minister for Education if she will consider the application by Leixlip Amenities Group, County Kildare for funding from the national lottery for improvements and provision of extra facilities at the Leixlip complex; if, mindful of the great work already undertaken by this group, she will make an allocation in the current year to the group; if her attention has been drawn to the demand for recreational facilities in this developing area; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 363 and 364 together.

My Department has received an application from Leixlip Amenities Group, which incorporates a submission from Leixlip United Soccer Club, for assistance under the Capital Grant Scheme for the provision of recreational facilities.

Due to the very large number of applications received for this scheme, it has not been possible within the limit of the funds available to allocate a grant to the project on this occasion.

365.

asked the Minister for Education if she has considered an application for funding from the proceeds of the national lottery for the improvement and provision of extra facilities at Barnhall rugby club, Leixlip, County Kildare; if she will approve an allocation in the current year; if her attention has been drawn to the current urgent financial needs of the club, the facilities already voluntarily provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Due to the very large number of applications received for this scheme, it has not been possible within the limit of funds available to allocate a grant to this particular project.

366.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to proposals by Maynooth post primary school, County Kildare in conjunction with Maynooth County Council to provide a sports complex, including a swimming pool, within the environs of the school; if she accepts the desirability of such a complex; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that such facilities, when provided, will be available jointly to the students and the local community; if her attention has further been drawn to the need for such facilities in this fast developing area; if she will allocate funds for the project from the proceeds of the national lottery; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities operated by my Department is restricted to projects undertaken by voluntary community organisations.

367.

asked the Minister for Education the total amount of money allocated to date from the proceeds of the national lottery through her Department; the total amount of actual payments made; the total reserves still available, if any, from the national lottery; the amount likely to be spent in the current year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
