Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - IDA Assessment Standards.

42.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has satisfied himself that the IDA standards in assessing the environmental acceptability of firms they assist financially, are high enough.

The Industrial Development Authority have statutory responsibility for the implementation of industrial development policy. The question raised by the Deputy relates to the day-to-day responsibility of the Authority and is not, therefore, a matter in which I have a direct function.

I am satisfied, however, that full account is taken of the potential environmental impact of industrial projects which are grant-aided. In this regard specific provision is included in the standard grant agreement to ensure that projects comply with all statutory requirements and any other requirements believed to be appropriate.
