Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Integrated Regional Plans.

56.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline the specific role of his Department and the relevant agencies under his control, in the preparation of integrated regional plans for submission to the European Commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The role of my Department and of the State development agencies under my control in the preparation of national and regional plans for submission for assistance from the EC Structural Funds is to ensure that a comprehensive programme is put forward which will address the main priorities for employment creation and the development of Irish industry to meet the challenge involved in the completion of the single European market.

This role will involve the preparation of input to both the national and subnational plans setting out priorities for industrial development including measures to promote employment, marketing expertise, technological capacity, management development and other related areas which impinge on economic development and participation in the work of the groups drawing up the national and regional plans.
