Vol. 383 No. 4

Written Answers. - House Stamp Duty.

82.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of revenue earned from stamp duty on the sale of houses in the years 1985, 1986 and 1987.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a deed of transfer does not, normally, give details of buildings which may have been erected on the land comprised in the transfer. Statistics in relation to those buildings, including houses, are, therefore, not available.

The amounts collected in stamp duties in 1985, 1986 and 1987 in respect of transfers of interests in land and property other than stocks and shares were £52.0 million, £56.3 million and £59.5 million respectively.

83.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider reducing stamp duty on the sale of secondhand houses.

This is a matter for consideration in the context of the preparation of the budget.
