Vol. 383 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire (Dublin) Housing.

151.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of houses in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin without indoor toilets; and the action he intends to take in the matter.

It is assumed that the Deputy's question relates to the rented housing stock of Dún Laoghaire Corporation. The latest information supplied by the corporation indicated that at 31 December 1986 they had 240 dwellings without indoor toilets. Loan finance is available from my Department for necessary improvement works to local authority housing including the provision of toilet facilities. In addition, where the provision of toilet facilities forms part of major remedial works to an estate of pre-1940 dwellings, such work may be grant aided by my Department under the remedial works scheme. The funds available under that scheme are allocated having regard to the overall demands by authorities for funding, the amount of funds available and the priorities accorded by individual authorities to their various proposals.
