Vol. 383 No. 8

Written Answers. - Treatment of Prisoner.

74.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is concerned at the alleged ill-treatment of a person (details supplied) following a recent visit to hospital and her return to a British prison within hours of an operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the concern expressed by Derry City Council about Ms. Anderson's case, following the recent visit of a delegation from the council to see her in Durham Prison. I understand that a copy of the council's report is being forwarded to me. In the meantime, on my instructions, our Embassy in London is arranging to visit Ms. Anderson in prison. Following that visit, and receipt of the Derry City Council report, I will consider the matter further.
