Vol. 383 No. 9

Written Answers. - PAYE Statistics.

66.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of PAYE taxpayers in each £1,000 band of income, £0 to £1,000, £1,000 to £2,000 and so on up to £50,000 plus, both in total and broken down into the following categories (a) single males (b) single females (c) married couples-both spouses earning (d) married couples-one spouse earning (e) widowers and (f) widows; the total income for each income band; and the total tax paid in each income band and the total income and tax paid for all bands.

The latest relevant statistics available for mainly PAYE incomes are in respect of the income tax year 1985-86. This information was provided on 14 October 1987 in my reply to a parliamentary question tabled by Deputy Barry Desmond for answer at that time (Official Report Volume 374, No. 1, columns 83-88).
