Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Youth Employment Prospects.

150.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the steps he proposes to take to boost youth employment prospects in Tallaght, Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The main thrust of Government policies on the creation of jobs for young people in Tallaght and elsewhere has been the creation of an environment conducive to economic growth. Progress to date has been encouraging, the latest figures showing that 14,500 new industrial jobs were created in the nine months to 30 September 1988.

The present trend in unemployment levels nationally continues to fall and in the case of Tallaght, the numbers signing on at the local employment exchange has fallen over the last four months.

The promotion of industrial development in specific areas is a day to day matter for the Industrial Development Authority. However, I have been assured that they are doing their utmost to promote employment opportunities for young people in Tallaght, and I am confident that a continuation in the current positive economic trends will be of assistance to them in this regard.
