Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

asked the Minister for Health if the rate of disabled person's maintenance allowance payments for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be reviewed in order that they would be maintained at the same rate, if not increased.

The payment of a disabled person's maintenance allowance in any individual case is a matter for determination by the health board concerned having regard to all the relevant circumstances of that case.

I have had inquiries made of the South Eastern Health Board in this case and have been informed that the allowance was reduced by £9.50 per week because the applicant is no longer eligible for a dependant allowance in respect of his daughter.

I have had inquiries made of the South Eastern Health Board in this case and have been informed that as the income of the applicant's spouse exceeds the income level for DPMA she is not eligible for the allowance. In the assessment of means for the allowance health boards are obliged to take the income of an applicant's spouse into account.
