Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Civilian Employees.

216.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason persons (details supplied) in County Westmeath were not reemployed, having been laid off work; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that they were replaced by two other men who had not had any previous experience in the barracks; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick West): One of the persons referred to by the Deputy was last employed in a temporary capacity in 1987 and his temporary employment ceased on 31 December 1987. The other person was employed in a temporary capacity in 1983.

There was a limited number of vacancies for temporary employment this year in Columb Barracks, Mullingar, and the local military authorities conducted interviews for the vacant positions. The persons named by the Deputy were not successful in obtaining temporary employment on the occasion.

It was decided recently to take on an extra temporary plasterer in Columb Barracks, and one of the persons mentioned by the Deputy is being considered for this appointment.
