Vol. 384 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

106.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the way in which he can justify the withholding of payment of grants as explained to Deputy Austin Deasy in letters dated 4 August 1988, 14 August and 18 August 1988; particularly in cases where people have serious financial difficulties.

107.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the hardship being caused by the delay of eight months in the payment of farm development grants.

108.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the average delay applying in the payment of farm grants.

109.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in making payments of grants to farmers in the western counties under the western package farm improvements scheme and young farmers installations.

110.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is a waiting period of at least ten months for payments of grants under the farm improvement scheme after the inspection/report has been carried out for some farmers in County Carlow; and if he will take action to expedite the payment of such grants.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 106, 107, 108, 109 and 110 together.

Following the Government's decision to provide additional funds for farm grants the arrears have been cleared and payments of eligible claims are now up to date.
