Vol. 384 No. 3

Written Answers. - Airport Charges.

22.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he has satisfied himself with the level of Aer Rianta's airport service charges; and the way in which they compare with the charges at British and continental airports.

40.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the reason, at a period of greatly increased passenger numbers using their services, Aer Rianta are increasing their charges thereby adding to the costs of bringing tourists to Ireland; if he is concerned about this; and, if so, the action he intends to take.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 22 and 40 together.

Aer Rianta's charges at the State airports have not been increased since March, 1987 and there are no plans for any further increases at present. In addition to "freezing" landing charges at 1987 rates, Aer Rianta have at my request also waived charges on selected routes to help boost tourist numbers.

I am satisfied that the charges levied by Aer Rianta at the State airports compare favourably with those at British and Continental airports.
