asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the percentage of United States citizens who travel to Europe on holidays who come to Ireland; and the actual number in this case.

The Central Statistics Office estimate, on the basis of latest available data from the United States Department of Commerce which relates to 1987, that approximately 6 per cent of US citizens who travelled to Europe in that year on holiday came to Ireland. An estimated 367,000 US tourists visited Ireland in 1987, inclusive of those who came here via the UK.
