Vol. 384 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sheep Headage Grant Application.

23.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a ewe hoggett grant was not paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway, despite the fact that the animals in question were in lamb.

Sheep headage grants in respect of ten hoggets were not paid to the person named because the hoggets were inspected and adjudged as being of unsuitable quality both by the Department's inspecting officer on 7 April 1988 and, on appeal, by a senior officer on 3 May 1988. As these officers are very experienced and inspect thousands of flocks each year and as the flockowner himself has admitted that some hoggets were small, I regret that the decision to reject ten hoggets must stand.

Headage payments of £323 for the remaining 34 hoggets issued to the flockowner on 4 November 1988. The 1987 ewe premium of £1,619.33 on 83 ewes issued to the flockowner in two instalments in December 1987 and July 1988.
