There are currently six companies producing tobacco products in Ireland. These are Gallaher (Ireland) Ltd., Player-Wills (Ireland) Ltd., P.J. Carroll & Co. Ltd., Hofnar (Ireland) Ltd., Douwe Egberts Ltd. and Cadena (Ireland) Ltd. In the calendar year 1987 exports of tobacco products came to £31.150 million in value and 4,748 tonnes in volume. Latest figures show there are 1,700 people employed in the tobacco industry.
