Vol. 384 No. 8

Written Answers. - Information Services.

65.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the amount of money provided for in 1988 and 1989 for (1) press and information activities and (2) public relations; and to whom this money is payable.

£122,000 has been provided in 1988 for Information Services in my Department. The allocation provided in the 1989 Estimates is £125,000.

Funds provided for information activities are expended on the printing and distribution of the Department's own publications such as "Facts About Ireland" and "Ireland in Brief" (in various languages) and for the purchase of information publicity materials such as books, videos, records and posters for the use of Irish embassies abroad. In addition, the allocation is expended on certain press activities designed to promote a positive image of Ireland among the foreign media both at home and abroad.

Payment is made to suppliers of the necessary goods and services. No money is provided in the Vote for my Department for public relations.
