Vol. 384 No. 8

Written Answers. - Western Package Eligibility.

106.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has obtained ÉC approval for greater flexibility in operating the farm improvement programme, having regard to his announcement regarding flexibility in October, 1988 which is not operating at farm level.

127.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will clarify the position following his recent statement that farmers in the farm development scheme prior to 1 July 1988 could transfer to the updated western package; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that no directive has been received by the farm development scheme office in Cavan to this effect; and if farmers who were advised by farm development scheme officers to sign away their rights to grants already due under the scheme in order to avail of the higher grants in the updated western package will receive their grants.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 106 and 127 together.

I would refer the Deputies to my reply of 17 November 1988 to question No. 27 concerning this matter. The other matters referred to are being considered in the context of the arrangements there mentioned.
