Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Electricity Generation Cost.

143.

asked the Minister for Energy the cost of producing a therm of electricity which is generated by the following sources: (1) coal, (2) oil, (3) gas, (4) peat, and (5) hydro.

Variables such as exchange rates, interest rates and international fuel prices affect unit costs to such a significant extent that it is not possible to give definitive figures which would hold true on a permanent basis.

As of now, the fuel cost per therm associated with the production of electricity from each source is as listed below:—

Coal

30.5p

Oil

55.4p

Gas

40.8p

Peat

97.6p

Hydro
