Vol. 385 No. 2

Written Answers. - Partially-Sighted Employees in Public Sector.

177.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of partially sighted employees employed by various Government Departments and semi-State organisations; whether there is a statutory figure in respect of same; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The target of a 3 per cent quota for the employment of disabled persons in the public sector applies to all categories of handicap. Information regarding the individual handicaps of persons employed under the quota system is not collected. It is not possible therefore, to give a figure for the numbers of partially sighted people employed in the public sector.

I understand from the Department of Finance, however, that there are 50 employed in the grade of blind telephonist in the Civil Service.
